Best to break it up, no?
Here's the craft desk with projects lined up to work on:
Here, I have my Backyard Leaves scarf blocking. I steam blocked it, so
it's pinned to the ironing board. I've noticed that about half the
scarves I've seen online are blocked completely flat and half are left
with a little bumpiness. I liked bumpy because it looks more like
leaves that way. Karabella Aurora 8, pattern from the Interweave
holiday special issue.
Then, I made some felted slippers to use up some leftover Lamb's Pride and some random eyelash yarn. From
this pattern
done with two strands held together for extra warmth. They're super
comfortable, even though they look like crazy gnome shoes.
Unfortunately, they are covered with dog fur now. Black may not have
been the right choice here.
Also, I feel inclined to show you this:
The first picture is an "in progress" pic of my
Mrs. Beeton's lacy wrist warmers.
See, you knit the first ruffle, then you change needle sizes and knit
the second ruffle. THEN, you have to knit one stitch from each ruffle
together to join them, so you're working with 9 double pointed needles
at once. It looks like a crazy torture device, but it turned out to be
pretty simple, sort of like a 3-needle bind-off in the round. They were
nice when they were finished though. Um, Rowan Kidsilk Haze, Twisted
Sisters Jazz, Cascade Indulgence, and some pearly beads.
Next, we have the sweater I knitted from the Christmas yarn.
That'd be the Moda Dea Cartwheel.
I ended up using less than half of what she gave me, 9.5 skeins or so.
Top down raglan with some bust darts and hourglass shaping, which I
made up as I went along. Seed stitch borders, YO raglan increases. Big
button! I'm excited, because I've never done a sweater without a
pattern before. Also, it's warm and soft, so I've been wearing it a
lot. It's finally starting to pill, so I'm going to need a sweater
shaver or something soon. Plus, I need to figure out what to do with 14
more skeins of that same yarn. Another sweater in the same yarn might
be weird unless I could come up with something totally different.
I also did a couple of stuffed animals for Easter but forgot to get pics. One was the
Kate stuffed kitty
in a blue gray Cascade Indulgence, and one was the same body with no
limbs and long floppy ears in the green Berroco Foliage colorway. It's
a zombie bunny, so it's lime green with turquoise eyes and tail. Sounds
crazy, but Cranky Teenager loved it.
Right now I'm working on the two tone ribbed shrug from Fitted Knits in
Malabrigo Toureg, which is a dark turquoise color (only one tone in
this case, I suppose). I've got one more row of ribbing and then a
couple hours of sewn bind off. Then, blocking.
That's all for now kids!
