I saw my sister yesterday, and she mentioned that her kids are all in love with something that I knit a couple of years ago for one of the nieces. She said that if I was looking for something to make for them this year for Christmas, a round of those hats would certainly be welcome.

And would this be the pricey, beaded angora lace number that I slaved away on last year? Nope. It's a Hello Kitty hat (white hat with ears and a red bow) knitted with crappy Jiffy acrylic yarn. Figures. :)

Haha. This is how it goes. :) My stepdad loves the socks I make for him... out of Red Heart. Loves them so much that I don't really have any reason to make him socks out of anything else. (And it's not even that he doesn't know "good" yarn - my mom knits with some good stuff. He just knows what he likes, I guess.)

Be glad they all want something cheap? :)

Oh yeah, I'm glad for sure (although I do sort of hate knitting with acrylic). And for a long time I was worried that handmade stuff wasn't really being appreciated around her house, so mostly I'm glad that they're loving and using something that I made.

I would wear a Hello Kitty hat. =) Preferably a wool hat though.

Yeah, me too. For those though, I bought a skein of white Jiffy and then looked on the Lion Brand website for a generic hat pattern that had several sizes. Then I just kind of winged some ears and a red bow. Easiest hat ever.

I could probably make the new ones in a superwash wool or something, but they specifically like the fuzziness of the Jiffy. Blech,

At least they'll be cheap. :)
